PROJECT 1
Once I figured out the overall look, I started sketching out how I
wanted the poster to look like. Initially, I wanted to go for a
flow-ish composition where the potato layer would open up to allow the
filling to go in with its ingredients available but I found it messy
and hard to properly compose.
I then made a sketch where the pie layers would come out of a tray
that is sat in front of an oven. The earlier sketch had direct steps
written in words but Mr. Kannan suggested I put illustrations instead
to make reading the poster faster yet still remaining comprehensive.
He also said that if I were to use illustrations fully, I should also
label them so they can be understood easily.
Once the main illustrations were finished, I moved on to the ingredients and steps, which were done in a semi-lineless artstyle.
Once all the main illustrations were completed, I transferred everything to Adobe Illustrator. I imported the entire illustration then masked different parts to save more time. Illustrator was mostly used to reposition different elements and adding text. The fonts used were Jolly Jingle and Daniel.

INSTRUCTIONS
PROJECT 1
For Project 1, we are required to create an infographic poster based on a
recipe taken from the YouTube channel
Pasta Grannies.
Based on the channel's name, I assumed it would mostly be pasta recipes,
hence the name Pasta Grannies. However, I was pleasantly
surprised to have found a variety of, both pasta and non-pasta, recipes.
They even separated recipes into different playlists so it was easier to
navigate.
Of all the recipes presented on the channel, I looked through a few that
caught my eyes but ultimately settled for a rustic potato pie, also known
as Pitta di Patate by Nonna Laura.
Fortunately, Pasta Grannies does provide written recipes for
some of their videos, and this recipe is one of them.
I started out by simplifying the recipe into different phases and steps,
namely Potato Mixture, Filling, Assemble and Bake.
Afterwards, I went to look for references I can use for the
infographic. Since it was a pie, the main idea was to have separated
layers in a rendered artstyle. Additionally, there would be an oven
visible to indicate the need for baking.
Once everything was confirmed and consulted, I started the rendered
illustration of the pie and oven on Clip Studio Paint. When
consulting Mr. Kannan over my progress, he suggested I reorganise
how the illustrations flow to make it easily readable by making it
flow clockwise from the potato mixture all the way to the baking
section. He also suggested I put the instructions above the rendered
illustrations so it reads more easily.
Once the main illustrations were finished, I moved on to the ingredients and steps, which were done in a semi-lineless artstyle.
While doing the composition, I ran into a problem where
everything felt too cramped. To fix this, I decided to reorganise
the entire thing but on a square canvas.
Once all the main illustrations were completed, I transferred everything to Adobe Illustrator. I imported the entire illustration then masked different parts to save more time. Illustrator was mostly used to reposition different elements and adding text. The fonts used were Jolly Jingle and Daniel.
FEEDBACK
Week 5: I showed my sketch and storyboard to Mr. Kannan and he recommended I use illustrations instead of words for the instructions.
Week 6: Mr. Kannan said to reorganise the composition so that from top to bottom go from the instructions to the rendered illustration for each section.
Week 7: All good. Everything is readable.
REFLECTION
This assignment was a fun one! Discovering Pasta Grannies through this assignment was interesting because they provided a variety of recipes with their own backgrounds. This was one of the opportunities where I was able to use both Clip Studio Paint and Adobe Illustrator for an assignment, which was fun! I would definitely do it again on a different recipe :)
