Week 4

Animatic – Drawing Frames
Storyboard from Potential Ideas:

Based on the completed storyboard, I proceeded with the animatic. The software I used to make the animatic was Photoshop and I added the sound effects using After Effects. The way I did my storyboard was by directly putting in the storyboard onto keyframes and adding rough in-betweens to make the transition smoother.

While in the animatic stage, I managed to come up with ways to further develop the 2D world in terms of design and surrealism. One of the ways was to have the main character and the penguin always come in from the outside of the frame, as opposed to everything else being inside, as shown below:

Week 5

Character Designs

For the characters, there are three different characters that appear in the film, that being two humans and one penguin. Since my storyboard consisted of simplified shapes of the characters, I was able to work on both simultaneously with more ease since I didn't have to change the animatic every time I make a tiny change in the character design.

Animatic – SFX

For the sound effects, I wanted to give off a "wrong" feeling when the viewer sees the 2D world. I achieved this by having static noise play out in the background for the entirety of the 2D world before things went south, with the volume of the noise being increased or decreased based on the scene and mood.
