EXERCISE [TUTORIAL/PRACTICAL]
RESEARCH
QUOTE OF THE DAY
The first step when approaching this task was finding the quote itself, which I personally struggled on because while it had to be direct and motivational, it also cannot have buzzwords that would have negative connotations; this also includes the word "not" itself. Initially, I gave several quotes taken from literature and song to Mr. Fauzi that were more poetic/indirect, including:
- Forget death and seek life
- If the heavens can be both sacred and dust (maybe so can the rest of us)
- Be like the love that discovered the sin
- Swan upon Leda, occupier upon ancient land
They were expectedly rejected, which made me suggest:
- to live will be an awfully big adventure
- to strive, to seek, to find and not to yield
These were also rejected because of buzzwords (awfully and not yield) that would make the quote negative as told by Mr. Fauzi. Despite my confusion over the definitions, I decided to just remove awfully big from the first quote. While it slightly changed the tone, it still stays true to its original source (Peter Pan).
CHOSEN QUOTE: to live will be an adventure
REFERENCE:
I started by finding suitable reference with both photography and typography inside that would also go well with what I had in mind.
IDEATION
SKETCH:
Before the quote confirmation, I had roughly sketched a few composition for one of the quotes; forget death and seek life with the theme of personification as shown below.
I came up with new sketches for the approved quote with feedback from Mr. Hafiz to prioritise and update the third sketch as it has better sense of composition compared to the previous two.
Following Mr. Hafiz's advice, I did a more refined sketch of the third composition using Clip Studio Paint.
